First of all, nobody calls me Emmanuelle and lives except my grandmère; it’s Emmy, or Char if you don’t want to be on the first-name basis. I only lived in France for three years, anyway, and it was more of my dad’s idea. Like most of his bright ideas it was to placate his mother after having a kid with his American girlfriend, ha. Thank god she didn’t marry him and moved back home. So you’re not very torn up about it? Not at all. Next question, please. If your mother is American, why is your surname of French origin? Because her father’s side of the family is French-Canadian, comprenez-vous? And I must say that Montreal smells much nicer than Paris, though nude beaches are a fascinating phenomenon. What kind of atmosphere did you grow up in? It was pretty boring, to be frank; boarding school in Vermont, summers and breaks in either Quebec with grandmère or Syracuse with my mother. I broke into riding at a pretty early age because all of my friends had their little ponies that they brought to the school stables each term. I wanted one and so grandmère bought me one. Très simple. Eventually most of my friends grew out of the sport, but I found it exhilarating. Rewarding. Mother approved because it kept me active, away from boys or drugs or New York City, and looked good on college applications. Tell us a little more about your home life. Like I mentioned, my mother raised me on her own in upstate New York after she left my father. She had a rather busy life, working at the law firm she started with a friend from college. And so, of course, I was shipped off to boarding school the first chance she got. After that I went to Syracuse for a few semesters and discovered that - unlike my mother - it wasn’t for me. Cue me moving to West Virginia to study at Meredith Manor, and pop out the other side coaching hunter-jumper students, living the dream. Et voilà. Sadly, West Virginia was a bit too bland for my taste. When I saw the opening at Glendale, I jumped at the chance for a bit of sun and desert. The ever-present question; English or Western? Pah, don’t even get me started on western saddles and barrel-racing. I find it all far less fluid, less artistic than the grace of dressage or the challenge of show jumping. They may do what they wish with their horses and time and money, but you’d not catch me dead sitting in one of those thirty-pound monsters they call a saddle. If I may be blunt, what’s up with your hair? If I may be equally blunt, it’s none of your damn business. But if you want any sort of real answer, I originally cut it because I wanted to get back at my mother for setting me up on a blind date in high school and ended up liking it. The hair, I mean. Short hairstyles make it so much easier to just toss on a helmet, ride for a few hours, jump in the shower and be done with it. Run my fingers through it a little and it’s already dry. Pas un problème. Any parting words? To any students I may have; do what you’re told the first time and we’ll get along swell. À mauvais ouvrier point de bon outil. Don’t blame the horse for your ineptitudes, and I’ll sing your praises. However, if you’re lazy or disrespectful I’ll not hesitate to have you mucking out after my horses in addition to your own. Bon? hey-o, the name's English and i play Emmy Charbonneau. i live in the eastern time zone, and i've been roleplaying for approximately 8 years. crash caught my eye because the layout is gorgeous, the setting is something i adore and i'm pretty pumped to be here. you can contact me by email and pm, though i'll give out my skype and aim on a private basis. |
